Here’s a guide to the easy ePSXe Setup. We’ve all heard how useful an emulator can be but the process of installation is not that easy so for that we have made this article, reading this will enable you to successfully install the emulator and play your favorite games on it.
Like any other emulator epsxe doesn’t come with plugins preinstalled you have to do that manually but don’t worry we have listed all the necessary plugs that you may need. There are four main components
- The graphics or video plugin
- The sound or audio plugin
- PlayStation bios (Essential for epsxe setup)
- A cd from the plugin

Plugin 1:
cdrPeops.dll this is the first plugin that you will need to download, it’s optional actually. it’s used to emulate the CD-ROM drive but people don’t use that anyways these days, so you can skip this one. This is must for epsxe setup.
DSound.dll for the best sound experience you need to download this plugin and it’s necessary if you want to play the game with it’s audio.
gpuPeopsSoft if you have an older pc than this is the plugin for you it is much more compatible than the newer ones and it works well with slower machines.
Pete’s openGL for the best visual experience you need to download pete’s opengl as it offers unparalleled graphics. it even has the ability to upgrade the resolution of the textures so you aren’t stuck with the old graphics of the ps1, not entirely that is.
spuEternal.dll if you have a slower machine than this will do the job just fine, it’s an audio plugin but is much more compatible with older devices. Another MUST HAVE plugin for epsxe setup.
spuEternalL.dll if you plan to use the audio plugin mentioned above then you need to download this plugin too as it supports the former one.
- After you have successfully downloaded all the necessary files.
- extract them to a separate file and name it epsxe plugins for ease.
- once the extraction is completed copy all of the files.
- Now locate the epsxe folder and paste your plugins in the plugins folder
- Once you have installed all of the plugins now place the bios in the bios folder.
Configuring bios:
The next step towards a successful installation is configuring you it’s a really easy step so let’s begin
- Launch epsxe and press the config button on the top right corner.
- Then press bios.
- A dialog box will appear press select
- Locate your bios and press ok
- Congrats you have just configured your bios.
Configuring video:
- Now we have to configure the video plugin, it’s a pretty similar step to configuring your bios
- First press the config button on the upper right corner
- Next press the plugin button.
- Press the video button
- A dialog box will appear
- You will have a lot of options but just choose the one that says pete’s opengl.
- Now press the configure button a pop up will appear it will have a lot of options. But you don’t need to worry about that right now so once that dialog box appears just press the nice button on the lower left corner.
- Just click or the config button and you’re ready to go.
Configuring audio – epsxe setup:
- First press the config button and then select audio.
- Now press the audio plugin.
- Press config audio but be sure to select high compatibility mode as doing so will give you better performance.
Controller setup:
- For this, you need to first press conf then gamepad and then port 1.
- You will be prompted to a dialog box, here you can customize the controller any way you want, it’s all up to you.
Installing a rom:
- Installing a rom can be somewhat of a difficult task, first of all, you will need to download the rom that you desire.
- Your downloaded game will be in iso form.
- Extract all the files of the iso rom and paste them to a separate folder
- Now launch the epsxe app and press load.
- Select your file and start playing your game.
